The virtual production is an embrace by Broadway performers and big name actors of a fan-fueled sensation that started late last year.
With a formidable cast that includes stars Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, 30 Rock) as Remy the chef-rat, Queen singer Adam Lambert as Emile, and Ashley Park (Broadway’s Mean Girls), the pair of performances on New Year’s Day and then January 10 have sold a grand total of 350,000 tickets for viewers watching from home. According to The Actors Fund, this represents the largest fundraiser in the organization’s history.
“We are so grateful to the TikTok community, the Ratatouille creative team, and our friends at Disney Theatrical Group and The Actors Fund for helping us make this joyous first-of-its-kind event come to life,” Greg Nobile, CEO of theatrical production company Seaview, said in a statement. “In less than a month, we all created a new way of making art while raising funds for such a vital organization during this unprecedented time. I am hopeful that the success of this benefit will have a lasting impact as we work together as an industry to continue finding ways to champion new, diverse, and younger voices and audiences–whether it be online, on Broadway, or beyond.”
