Microsoft Finally Makes It Easier to Change the Default Windows 11 Browser

The most recent Windows 11 cumulative update finally includes a one-click method to change the default operating system browser, with Microsoft therefore addressing criticism that it’s trying to enforce Microsoft Edge on Windows users.

The new cumulative update is KB5012592, and it goes live on Windows 11 devices as part of the April 2022 Patch Tuesday cycle. This update increases the OS build number to 22000.613, and you can check if it’s installed by typing winver in the Start menu.

Microsoft doesn’t specifically mention the browser improvement in the release notes of this cumulative update. However, the company states that “this security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5011563 (released March 22, 2022).”
