A new Microsoft Surface Pro X is coming with Windows 11

Microsoft is apparently working on a new Surface Pro X with an upgraded internal chipset and Windows 11 on ARM. The Surface Pro (2021) has been the subject of the latest leak on certification websites, suggesting that the 2-in-1 Always Connected PC will be compatible with Windows 11.

This leak comes courtesy of Energy Star certifications, which show that Microsoft is testing a new Surface Pro X with Windows 11 and it will run the Snapdragon SQ processor. It should be noted, however, that the Surface Pro X is listed on the Energy Star website with Snapdragon SQ2.

This is probably just a placeholder, as the Snapdragon SQ2 was previously used for the last Surface Pro X model. According to the same listing, Surface Pro X will have up to 16GB of RAM and it has been certified for the following countries: United States, Switzerland, Taiwan, Japan, and Canada.

A Surface product with the same model number (2010) has also cleared the FCC certification earlier this month.

A previous leak suggested that the tech giant is testing a new 120hz display for the Surface Pro lineup, but it’s not yet clear if the same display will be used for the Surface Pro X refresh.

The fact that certification filings are coming in pretty fast would suggest the Surface Pro X will be announced during the company’s September 22 event. The new and first Windows 11 on ARM PC should be coming alongside a new Surface Pro 8, Surface Go 3, Surface Duo 2, and other products.

According to sources familiar with the development, Microsoft is planning to announce at least one expensive product on September 22. The most expensive device could be the Surface Book/Studio and it could cost more than $3,000.

There’s a chance that Microsoft will announce Surface Book upgrade with major hardware and design upgrades, but nothing is confirmed so far.

These new Surface products are expected to go on sale during the holiday season in the United States.
