Windows 10 Version 1809 Bug Causing Font Errors

Microsoft hasn’t yet resumed the rollout of Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809), but this doesn’t necessarily mean that new bugs aren’t discovered anymore.

Most recently, users have come across a font issue in this OS version, with some special characters not rendered correctly within apps.

A discussion thread on reddit shows that the bug was experienced in foobar2000, and several users confirmed the issue on their systems too. By the looks of things, everything worked correctly in Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803), but the upgrade to version 1809 broke down font substitution for Unicode characters.

“Glad I’m not the only one. Have the same problem since 1809, also with the rating stars (U+2606 ☆ and U+2605 ★) in Foobar2000. I set the playlist font to Segoe UI Symbol to fix it at least in Foobar,” one user explains in a post in the said th… (read more)
